John Constantinou, Global Head of Sponsorships and Partnerships at Orange Group, is fresh from leading the activation of the company’s EURO 2012 sponsorship and is the latest top executive from a major brand to line-up for the industry’s most important annual gathering, Leaders in Sponsorship, at Chelsea FC on 10th and 11th October 2012.
He will be joining a panel of other sponsorship and digital experts from across the world to share and debate the latest innovations in activation and enhancing fan experiences in the digital and social channels. Other announced speakers for the conference include Jean-Claude Biver, the Chairman and CEO of Hublot, and Eelco van der Noll, who manages AB InBev’s global portfolio of sports and entertainment properties.
Constantinou said “Leaders in Sponsorship will provide a great opportunity to share our experience of activating our sponsorship of UEFA EURO 2012 to reach football fans across Europe through exciting digital platforms. It’s also a valuable platform to network with like-minded professionals and of course to be informed about, and hopefully surprised by, the latest trends in sports marketing.”
The recent UEFA European Championships were the most “connected” football tournament yet and as official telecommunications partner, Orange played a key role in developing the host nations’ infrastructure and was at the forefront of sponsorship innovation. Led by Constantinou, the company developed a number of digital experiences to bring the tournament closer to fans, including the official UEFA EURO 2012tm mobile app and an online Europe-wide competition called the Supporters Cup, which drew in 23,500 competitors visiting the site 800,000 times.
The hugely successful mobile app was co-developed with UEFA and made available to fans across 11 European countries where the telecom operator is active. Offering unique content, location-based and augmented reality services, as well as social media integration, it was a massive step-forward from what has been offered in the past. Orange recently revealed that by the time Spain lifted the trophy, the app had ranked number 1 in sports in France, Spain and the UK, with a total of 2.3m downloads, and was used by over 400,000 fans during each game to keep up with the action.
Constantinou has been with Orange since January 2005 and is responsible for global strategy and the selection/activation of global properties, which also includes the Tour De France and African Cup of Nations. Prior to joining Orange, he built up considerable experience in both the sponsorship and digital industries, having previously held high ranking positions at Sony Playstation and EA.
At Leaders in Sponsorship he’ll be speaking to an invite-only audience of 350 top executives in sports sponsorship, on a conference programme that promises to deliver insight into negotiation, innovation, activation and evaluation. The conference takes place within the world renowned Leaders Sport Summit which hosts 5 leading edge conferences for senior level directors from over 45 sports and 55 countries.
